Worship Ministry
Worship is like a flower, it's our whole lives and how we face God. We tend to think of it as singing, but it's so much more than that. But God created us creative, because we are made in his image and he is creative, and music has a way of touching our souls (and I now know it's not just me from watching the final of Britain's Got Talent and knowing the winner would be a singer - but why should it be, when they do less and it's raw gift rather than rehearsed activity? It has to be to do with how music touches our souls). So music reaching inside us and touches God's heart too, really can help us come into His presence.
Now I love singing, but I am so aware that God hears our heart, not our voices. There are many great musicians not fit to lead worship. So if you're looking for perfection, I'm sorry we'll disappoint, because that's not our first priority in worship leaders. Having said that, we don't want to distract anyone from worshipping with cringey musical imperfections! So, it's a fine balance, we know we don't always get it right but we long to worship our Lord and Saviour in Spirit and in truth. Growing up I used to be looking round during the dirges (sorry, hymns) and wonder how the people could sing so miserably whilst believing the awesome stuff they were singing (at the same time as working out how old the hymnwriter was when they died - impressed?!!). So whilst I have had a kickback to dirges and tend to stick with songs which I can't work out how old the writer was when they died, there are some powerful olde hymns out there and we try and mix a worship set that takes us on a journey of praise, repentence, gratitude, trust, love etc cos it's not about performance, it's about Jesus!
