Penrith Leisure CentreYouth in the barn has played a big part of the Church’s outreach into the community. We have always had a heart to reach young people for Christ and to help them in their journey into adulthood with all its temptations and struggles. We started fourteen years ago and thousands of young people have come to the youth club in that time. Many still keep in touch and tell us how Youth in the Barn made a positive impact on their life.

We have always had a good connection to the skaters in the town and we built our own skatepark and set up many skate competitions. During the summer months we meet the the young people at the skatepark with our modified trailer. With its sound system and projection screens it usually draws a crowd and the young people look forward to us going on a friday night.

Youth in the Barn also hosts an under 18 six aside football league every Friday night at the local Leisure Centre. We currently have around 80 young people taking part. Every game starts with a prayer and an encouragement to be honest and fair during the game. It is a competitive league open to all. The qualified referees tell us that it is a joy to officiate the games as there is a good atmosphere about them.

Alongside the football on a Friday night, we also provide refreshments and entertainment in a meeting room overlooking the astro turf, which we presently hire. This includes various computer games, beauty nights and music evenings.

All our youth leaders are volunteers and find it a privilege to build relationships with the young people and to be a support in many areas of their lives. Every week we set aside a time where the young people have opportunity to listen and get to know various speakers and ask questions about their life and faith in Jesus. This is something the young people requested.
